Any tips for Cambodia - please help!!

hello fellow travellers,

Kampot and Kep are very nice and fairly quiet. How about taking a trip up to Preah Vihear. Bamboo island is one of the islands off Sihanoukville. You can do a day trip out to it for around $14. You will find the hill tribes, forests and waterfalls in the east, base yourself in Mondulkiri. While you're in Siem Reap make sure you visit Kbal Spean too.

Nice to see you taking the time to see Cambodia - too many people go to Angkor Wat, have a couple of days in Phnom Penh and then move on.

Hey Daveh, thanks so much for your reply, i really appreciate the help and I'll try to follow your recommendations. G

You should consider taking the boat to Battambang, this is a marvelous trip, and once you're in Battambang, rent a bicycle and tour the countryside, you won't regret it!
And don't miss Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri! This place is so different compared to the rest of Cambodia (and SEA), and if you need a lodging recommendation for this place, ask me and I'll send you a PM!

Great another place to add to my already all too short a trip to Cambodia! thanks though.

Heres a link to a useful site on that area.

Hei mate.

I went from siep riep to phno penh and from there to Sihanoukville which was my final destination in cambodia. And i must admit that Sihnoukville is one hell of mistery place what stole my hart right away.
There is nice peaceful city. Very beautiful beaches. U can find what u like. There is good nightlife beaches where is everyday party and also private beaches where u can laze away days under the palm etc..

so yeah. thats all.

oi everyone! thanks so much i really appreciate your help!

so...I took the boat to battambang (thank you yvekes) and it was a really good ride - just one thing - we had to push the boat a couple of times because of the low level of the water lol - which really added to the fun. Battambang is just a province city but people are so friendly!! I rented a scooter man (no bicycle it was way too hot) and went around the countryside and I didnt see a single tourist for the whole day! prime experience! i saw villages, temples, caves, amazing views, children running towards me ...even ended up teaching in a local school for a couple of hours totally on the spot!!

I am now in PP and still not sure whether to go east or south!!

G

PS: Daveh, kpal spean was awesome!! thanks :-)

You can visit the Bayon temple and the Ta Phrom temples, which surrounded by giant trees and vines, which gave a delightful look to the temples & can also enjoy boat trip in the Tonle Sap Lake with buffalo tours.

From my notes Bamboo Island is also known as Koh Russei. To visit you will also visit Sihanoukville which is touristy but as descibed above I like the place. Also suggested above is Kampot and Kep (very few tourists) which I found laidback and loved the food.

Never come across Mondulkiri before in all my research over the last 5 yrs so I'll have to research it for future reference. Thanks Yvekes & Dodger.
