I have recently decided to travel around the US for a few months and thinking of looking into some bar/restaurant work in Miami to help me pay for day to day things... any suggestions?
You don't say where you're from, and haven't filled that information in on your profile either, but effectively, if you're not from the USA (and aren't being sponsored by a company), you can't work in the USA. They're extremely hostile to the idea, and if an immigration officer at the airport gets even a whiff of an impression that you'd be contemplating working, you'd stand a good chance of being denied entry to prevent you from attempting to do so illegally. Try Canada instead, where you can get a Working Holiday Visa if you're below 31/36 (depending on nationality).

Its still possible to get cash in hand work, and Miami is probably one of the easier places to do it. Its more about personal contacts though, and being an outwardly vivacious and bubbly person. Your not going to find jobs listed and you might have to knock on a lot of doors. Its not really something you can count on happening.
Scooty,
My advice is to bring all the money you will need for your stay in the US. It is very doubtful you will be able to earn very much while here. Not only is it illegal, there are literally millions of people here illegally looking for work besides you. Many of these people are from countries that have a much lower standard of living than the US. They will work for less that a US citizen would expect, you as well. Don't count on earning any money while here on your holiday.
Sorry, forgot to say... I'm from Scotland. Working isnt a major issue though, i'm hoping to have enough cash to get by! Was more of a way to meet new people, but i think i might look into the possibility of charity work and volunteering if that is a possibility? I will be 29 by the time my travelling starts so might look into the possibility of picking up some work in Canada.
Thank you for your replies!!

try great way to meet locals. Free board, and if you pick the right location they might have paid work for you too.
