Cape Town suggestions

Paul_wsm has indicated that this thread is about South Africa

Long street in central capetown will most likely be booked out + expensive, there are a smattering of hostels around sea-point (on the cost and 15 mins from cetral capetown) however this close to the world cup i'd imagine that they would have hiked up their prices. Google seapoint + hostels and it will list you a range of hostels to choose from. On the drive down to the cape of good hope we passed a cool little hostel in cape town, its pretty far from cape town however this also could be another option.

Hello,

I am currently planning my trip to South Africa for the World Cup in June & July and I am going to stay in Cape Town for a few days. Problem is that the hostels in Cape Town are obviously astronomically expensive at the moment, mainly the ones close to the centre of Cape Town. I am wondering if anyone on here has any suggestions of any areas close to Cape Town which would be a nice place to stay with easy access to the centre of the City (perhaps near the coast). Any recommendations of hostels would also be greatly appreciated. I am planning on spending three to four days there. Going to Table Mountain is obviously a must-see and any tips on any other sights to see while there would be great.

many thanks

Paul

Sorry to hear that prices have been hiked up - inevitable I suppose. The Baz Bus (backpackers bus) do a very good tour of the Cape Peninsula including all the sights along the way. Thoroughly recommend it. If you plan to go to Robben Island (where Mandela was imprisoned) then you would need to book before you leave the UK - there is a week's waiting list at normal times, let alone during the World Cup! Also recommend a tour of the wine region - again, Baz Bus do a tour as do other local operators. Be prepared to have very hazy memories of that day after about 11am. We tasted LOTS of wine, just 'forgot' to spit it out again. Ooops! Other post's suggestions re hostels all make sense.

Hi Paul,

You can also try the Mountain Manor Guesthouse / backpackers in CT - I've stayed there before and they're quite good. Try a few of the cheaper or 3-star hotels in the Seapoint area - some of them are also very good value for money.
