Have you had a look at the Australian travel guides to get a bit of an idea about the time of year/weather to pick? A lot of Australia is 'hot' year round, but there tends to be dry seasons and wet seasons - which you choose can depend on whether you prefer a humid heat or a dry heat. Also given just how scortching it can get, you might want to avoid travelling in the middle of summer, or alternatively head south at this time...
