Hi, my mom and I are following a tour-guided trip to Sapa Village/Halong Bay/Hanoi from 9-15 December 2010. As we are from Malaysia, I am most concerned about the weather in the northern region of Vietnam. I have done some google search on the weather, and it is mentioned that the temperature will go as low as 1oC during that time. I wonder what kind of warm clothing do I need to bring and how bad the weather can get? Frankly speaking, the coldest climate I had ever been was spring in Korea, so I do need some assistance here.
I was in Hanoi/Sapa/halong Bay about three years ago and it was exceptionally cold, but I think I was unlucky and just happened to be there during their coldest winter for twenty years. Anyway, I was wearing 4 layers (including a coat) but like I say, I think that was untypical. Sapa was the coldest but luckily the hotel I was staying at had electric blankets so it wasn't too bad.
Sapa is the coldest place so you should take warmer cloth with you.
