Touring Latin America by car? wowow...a little crazy...Latin America is not Europe..
I'd buy a Japanese made car.
The biggest issue will be disposing of the car afterward since you won't be allowed to leave Panama (or Colombia or anywhere else) without proving you've legally disposed of it.
There are of course ways around that some easier than others.....
