Where in Sydney are you looking at staying? The city, or the beaches (Bondi, etc)?

I'm not too sure really where to stay, hopefully somewhere can meet people, not hugely expensive and would be secure.
I have read some reviews but nothing stands out hugely as a good spot.
If your staying in the city i'd highly recommend 'wake up'. Has a massive kitchen several floors of rooms and the legendary sidebar nightclub in the basement. friendly staff and its well decked out with computers tv's and the like
