India - 3 weeks in April

My friend and I are going to India for 3 weeks in April. We know it is out of season and it will be hot but it is the only time we can go. Where shall we go??? Anyone have any ideas or itineries - we are thinking maybe the north? We definitely want to go to the Taj Mahal.

We're going there in May 2011.
There are plenty of temples, forts and palaces to see, and we plan to get a mix of these so that we don't get bored with the sights. The guides refer to the golde triangle area from Delhi.
Also, consider the travel option of a car with driver. We used this in southern India a few years ago, and it was a great way to safely travel and see the country, and find your way around.

I was there for Feb to early May... and it was amazing and i loved my whole time spent there. I had time to acclimatize to the heat (April the hottest) so it wasn't too bad for me when it got up to 45 plus temperatures. A friend arrived to meet us in April/May and she couldn't stand it... basically lay in a water soaked bed with the fans on (while the power was on) the whole time. We were mainly in Hyderabad so the heat is probably the worst in that general area... If you go into the mountainous areas it will probably be cooler, and we went down south for 2 weeks to Kerala, and it was lovely down there (beautiful scenery, friendly people, and cooler). In Kerala I would suggest taking a boat trip (old remade fishing boats) for a few nights... going swimming off the boat, and the surrounding area is amazing.
Hope that helps and safe travels, Megan

Hi buddy,

Got ur point. Actually the only problem you guys will face will be enormous heat. North is a good choice in comparison to south because South is sweating like hell in these days See you can visit some hilly areas in northern region. -snip-

Hi,

I was in India last December for 3 weeks. I did a round trip Delhi (2 nights)- Agra (1)- Jaipur (2)- Pushkar (1) - Todagargh (2)- Udaipur (1) - Jodhpur (1) - Jaisalmer (2)- Bikaner (1)- Mandawa (1) - Delhi in 2 weeks with a driver. Then chilled out in Rishikesh for a couple of days and went back home. It was doable but heavy and only possible with a driver. Todagargh was a small village, not much to see but just relaxing. But staying there longer left us only one night for Udaipur which was short. Driving from one place to the next takes at least 4 hours a day and drivers won't do more than 250 km a day.

Good luck and have fun!

Hello,

you must visit golden triangle delhi-agra-jaipur. and if you have time can see more like jodhpur, mandawa.

i suggest one thing if you are driving by car/bus from agra to jaipur. you can enjoy breakfast/Lunch/dinner at Rajputana Midway near mahwa(half the distance between jaipur-agra). food is very Hygienic and one can see the scenic Aravali Hills with seven old forts of rajput rulers in the near by villages

Hi

It is not 'out of season' if you discount the heat.

What others have already suggested is OK: Be in Delhi and see around. Visit Agra and Jaipur. They are nearby and give you a good idea of Indian heritage and life. If time permits, add Varanasi [ancient temple town, very crowded, very Indian in traditional sense], Khajuraho [magnificent erotic temples] and Nainital [if want to see a nearby hill station].

On reaching Delhi, one of the first things you must do is to buy mosquito repellent electic dispenser [dispenser + liquid bottle for about two $] and mosquito coils [a packet for about one $, for days and places where there is no electricity] from a local shop.

Visit sites of India Tourism Development Corpn or Selhi Tourism Devp Corpn; go for private arrangements only when you are sure you won't be fleeced.
