We are planning a long road trip around the south of USA from 7th july-8th sept.
Hi , Rental campers in US are expensive . The old style VW campervan or even the new ones , we don't see much of these . Might think about purchasing a used mini - van , like a Dodge Caravan . They are roomy , will hold a full size mattress or inflatable bed . A portable propane stove and a bucket with some folding beach chairs and hit the street . An older style reliable transport will cost 2500 - 4500 US . Another possibility is purchasing an older used RV starting around 7000 US . Summer in the South means high temps and high humidity so whatever you end up with - make sure the AC is ok .
Check online newspaper ads at your port of entry under used vehicles / rv's .Craigslist and Autotrader are other good used car sites .
Some rental companies may offer a new van W/ unlimited mileage . Check Dollar and Alamo . RentaWreck may have a location near you .

Im doing a USA road trip to but on a longer scale feb 2011 to Dec 2011 but we could meet up along the way!

Been looking on Craigs list and like the previous posts says its gna be arounf $4000 for a decent one plus registration, petrol, and insurance
My route is Sanfran,Vegas, Arizona, New mexico, maybe Mexico for a week, Texas, and along the Southern states, New orleans, Alabama, Florida then up to Washington DC maybe New york but might skip that as ive been and go to Canada , then take a Northern route back to San fran as thats where im flying home

hello. Have a look at car and motel prices too if u fancy. me and two friends drove around california for 2 weeks and when we looked at the prices is was more or less the same to hire a car and stay in city centre motels. the motel6 chain was good to us. as it was to rent a campervan...but here are two campervan websites...
