Hey, I am trying to get an idea of costs of flights to australia and which airline is best/cheapest.
I have heard about air asia/malaysian airlines/qantas/emirates mainly and was wondering if anyone could give me any infomation about the airlines, what experiences they have had with them etc. Apparently air asia is the cheapest but does this mean that the flight itself isnt great?
Any advice would be great thanks x
Hi jennyrose
I've just googled 'Oz & NZ trips where do i start' and I got links with your email from Dec and tried to find it again when I joined this site just now and couldn't but then saw your name.
I'm in the exact same boat....I basically woke up on NYD and was like i'm gona travel to Oz/NZ and I have no idea where to start! Although the first thing I did was get my working visa as I turned 31 on 2nd Jan so at least that's done and I have a year to use it so was thinking of heading there Oct prob Nov time.
So how have you been getting on with responses and have you had much info...if so would you be kind enough to forward any links to me. I could and probably will put a post up but saw this site and thought i'd ask and see how someone else is finding it. I'll get myself a copy og the Lonely Planet too at some stage. I'm based up in Edinburgh by the way.
Anyway hope to hear from you

Oops sorry thought this was going directly to you-wasn't sure how it works. Sorry.
Typically carriers like Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Malaysian are known for great service and entertainment on board their flights. Having said that, if the price difference is very big, there is absolutely no reason not to fly Air Asia (I'm sure they also offer solid service, a decent chair and some movies)! They probably won't always be cheapest though; it depends on when you are booking and for what time of year, as well as specials etc. Most airlines flying to Australia are good though, so I would just be concerned with finding something at a price that you are willing to pay.

Good on you for waking up and decided on travelling! ha. Sounds like me!
I got a lonely planet guide when I went to Thailand. Never used it after arriving at my first island and realizing they can tell you as many things as you want, but for me...its all about discovering things yourself. It's the way to do it! Just pick a starting point. You need very little more!
Good luck!

Thanks, that makes it easier just need to find one with a good price - what would you say the average cost is? i was quoted around £1100 is that expensive, i think so but may be totally wrong!!!
Air Asia will get you to Melbourne and back from London Stansted for well under £1000, although you don't say your choice of dates.
