7 Weeks in South East Asia?

Hi! Just joined this to ask for some advice really but it seems a great resource! I'm hoping to travel to SE Asia at the end of May for 7 weeks and i'm stuck for an itinerary. I'd like to be in BKK 2 weeks into my trip as a friend of mine is coming out as well, but i'm just looking for what to do really!

Not the answer you want, but

Watch the situation in Thailand, and decide if it is best to avoid Bangkok, or even Thailand.

I was going to go there, but have decided to leave out Bangkok.

I will fly into Cambodia. I plan to spend some time at the beaches in southern Cambodia. I may just travel to different places in Cambodia and see what I find. I may or may not cross the border into Vietnam from Cambodia. If the situation looks OK in Thailand, I may or may not cross the border into Thailand from Cambodia. I will not go to Bangkok.

Later I plan to fly into Malaysia. I may or may not cross into Indonesia, and/or Singapore.

kittyyyyyy

Just looking at what you have written, it seems like you want to go to a lot of places in a very short time. You may want to go to a few less places, and spend a bit more time in each.

Just a suggestion. You do whatever you are happy doing.

I have to agree with that last post - 8 countries in 7 weeks might look easy on paper, but in reality it will be near impossible. For instance, Vietnam really needs at least 3 or 4 weeks just to get the feel of the place. There's always a second or third trip. I'm now planning #4, and it's pretty remarkable considering my poverty!

Eight countries is seven weeks is a lot and while I agree that a longer time is better/needed, not everybody has the luxury of allowing 3 or 4 weeks in any one country.

Where in Cambodia will you be going? I'd advise against travelling overland from Thailand to there - lots of bus scams as unwitting travellers can testify to. Also, I'd be very careful in certain areas of Thailand - especially Bangkok.

The Australian government issued a travel warning on the 23 April for travel to Thailand has been increased to reconsider their need to travel.
