north east america

am driving from boston back to boston in early may after visiting relatives in new york. Trip will last about 10 days and stowe, vermont is the only definite stopping point. on a circular route, what should I see? where should I stopovernight? I hear cape cod is beautiful. any advice welcome.

Visit Cape Cod. Also consider visiting the old whaling village at Mystic in Connecticut. Also tour the submarines based in Groton (also in Connecticut and fairly close by).

Stop in Newport, Rhode Island and visit the many mansions (there is a regular mansion tour to take there)--see http://www.newportmansions.org/

Some people also like to take the ferries across to the islands offshore (Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket). I've done this and was extremely bored, personally. But if you like a super quiet trip with no technology distractions (no TV or radio on most of the island--and very few cars) and away from everything, then this might be for you.
