Literally hundreds of people have asked that same question, yet to my knowledge no-one has ever been stopped at arrivals and asked for anything regarding their funds. I imagine people trafficking, drug smuggling and counterfeiting are higher on the Australian Border Control agency's list of priorities.
When I got off the plane in Sydney I border guard approached me and quite politely asked what I was doing in Australia. I replied nervously that I was there to play rugby and started to scramble for my passport, visa and bank statements. But before I could get any of it he had simly replied "that's great - enjoy your stay" and walked off.

So they wont even ask for a statement during the application process?? Thats quite good news. Like I said i do intend to have the funds but not until just before I travel.
