I am landing in Langkawi on Jan 11, 2010. I want to stay in mid range hotel like Malibest or AB Motel etc. However they dont have online booking. Malibest has a website, however they want my credit card number and security number by mail which i am not willing to do. Can anybody tell me if i can go to langkawi directly without booking hotel in advance
Have you tried looking at TP's accommodation section?
is a nice place by the Pantai Tengah beach which is next to the touristy Pantai Cenang beach.
I stayed at Langkawi boutique resort as the Sunset Beach Resort, AB Motel, Malibest were all full during my visit in October. However, I wouldn't recommend Langkawi boutique resort as the room was really in need of maintenance and there was a damp smell in the room. On the other hand, if you will be out the whole day and just need a few hours of sleep, Langkawi boutique resort could do as it is cheap and on the main road and beach.
My personal recommendation though is to get out of the touristy part of Pantai Cenang beach and go more towards the Oriental village, which is more scenic. The Oriental village, where the cable car rides start, has its own hotel - Geopark Hotel - as well as cheap dorms.
is also a lovely place.
We stayed at Sunset last Christmas and it was lovely. I especially liked the fact that the piece of beach facing the back of the hotel was clean, peaceful and shady and we spent many happy hours reading and playing Scrabble. The whole place reminded me a bit of Bali actually.
Our favourite was breakfast time when we would scoff scrambled eggs and sausages in the dining room (which faced the beach) and watch the waves just crash ever so gently on the shore. Wonderful.
PS: Mozzies are ruthless in the rooms because of the trees and plants. Get some mosquito coil from reception who are always willing to help.
