Road Trip Usa in the summer. What to do in california?

Hi,

As long as you're in the area, you really should see the best of the West (the Pacific Northwest) - really, Seattle and Portland are miles ahead of California in scenery, comfort and prices!

Best way to get around CA is Virgin America Airlines. Yes, it is a rather civilized area and does have shabby, slow and uncomfortable service on Greyhound Bus and Amtrak trains. Lucky you're going to SF first, because it's the nicest of CA cities (LA the worst). In SF, I suggest you use the MUNI transit system and then transfer to the BART system for other locales in the SF Bay Area. Central San Diego has the Tijuana Trolley and is somewhat small (bus to the La Jolla/Pacific Beaches), but LA is totally impossible without wheels (local bus in LA takes forever to go even a few miles). You're better off renting a motorbike or cycle in LA.

hey.

Thank you very much for the information. I was just looking at the flight prices within CA and I was suprised how low the rates are - so thanks for that. But our problem probably is that we do not really know how long we want to stay at one place, so booking flights could become a problem I think. But from what I understood there is a train/bus system which could get us for example from SF to LA or San Diego it is just not very comfortable? But we're young anyway and travelling on a low budget so I dont think we would care

I suggest you take the Amtrak train and get off and visit Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara. These are college towns and therefore will be a bit quiet in the summer, but they are popular beach resorts and some of the nicest cities in California.

Enjoy
