solar chargers

hi ppl am planning a rtw trip and was thinking about getting a solar charger so i can charge my phone, digital cam etc can anyone give me advice or point me in the right direction for a cheapish 1 or even better which ones not to buy

I've been looking too, but nothing so far. Wanted something flexible to clip to my bag and thought the 'Freeloader Supercharger' was the answer, but apparently it needs a dedicated battery unit which meant two pieces of kit, two lots of wires and twice the wait before I get to make a call. Why does everything have to be so complicated, eh? Roll on the day when they sew them into bags and straps.

There are many different chargers out there, with many different prices attached. I don't know which ones are more reliable than any other...I checked Consumer Reports here in the US and they have yet to test any. But, a little web searching should help out. I plugged in "pocket solar chargers" and had way too many replies......but I did rather like the one company called Solio....nifty looking little gadget....a little pricey ~USD$80), but compared to the cost of batteries or even not having power when you really need it, it could be a bargain. There are also models with combination solar and wind charging, but as with all electronics, you need the proper adapters for each device you want to charge. Insidious, these electronics manufacturers....

Here's a link to some reviews solar chargers......

Is having a built in 'dedicated' battery a disadvantage if that's the only source? Can the re-chargeable AA packs that come as accessories to some chargers be charged directly from a standalone panel (one without it's own battery)? That way, ordinary AA's could be bought locally (middle of the night even?) and used in the same pack.

Sorry if that's not making sense.
