What is the best way to visit Petra from Eilat. Not interested in expensive tour generally offered.
Easy to travel by bus, taxi? Need your expertise. Regards
When I went from Eilat to Petra a few years ago it was relatively easy to get first to the border and then catch a taxi, first to Aqaba and then to Petra.
From what I heard there is a bus now from Eilat to Aqaba and back as well as a bus from Aqaba to Petra. If you set out early in the morning from Jerusalem or Tel Aviv you shouldn't have a problem getting to Petra within the same day. So from Eilat to Petra plan on around 3-4 hours travelling time. Stay in Petra for 2 nights so that you get a full day in Petra and then go back on the 3rd day.
If I was you I would ask in the hotel or hostel where you are staying at in Eilat on how to get to Petra by bus or taxi.
2 way bus+taxi from from Eilat to petra and back will not be much cheaper then a tour bus, check out , it cover most of the tour option on this rout
