In general, I wouldn't recommend staying in residential district, particularly when you don't speak Italian. You're liable to get lost, plus it's going to take valuable time to get to/fro the centre of Rome where you'll be doing the sightseeing etc. Sure public transportation is quite cheap in Rome, but unless you know for sure the service is regular, and you know exactly where you're going, it may not be the best of idea to stay out there.
Note: I don't personally know that neighbourhood but if you want, I can email a couple of my friends who are from Rome and ask them what they know of it.
