Hi everyone,
What city in South America is the least expensive to fly into from Vancouver?
Thanks!
I believe that would be Bogota (BOG) - I found this by using Mobissimo - the flight search engine that also shows the lowest price to a specific region (SA) - this is not necessarily the lowest fare, but it does probably come very close
Mobissimo then calls in Hotwire and the quoted fare for my sample was approx. US$700. round trip
Personally, I'd opt for safer countries than Columbia!
Hi,
Thanks for the tip that will come in handy!
Does anyone know of a less dangerous region to fly into? lol
Thanks!
Coming from BC, I would think Lima or Quito is worth checking out. Travelzoo shows LAN (Chile) advertising a sale in January. LAN is considered to be the best int'l airline in the region. You might also check out Mexicana. LAN normally transits LAX, and Mexicana goes via MEX.

Colombia is a great deal safer than Peru or Ecuador-both place are notorious for violent robbery and worse.
I note that the poster who claims that Colombia is unsafe can't even spell the name of the place-I'd rather be in Bogota or Medellin or Cartagena than any city I can think of is his country.
Leaving that aside a flight to Bogota with (connecting in Houston) is easily you best bet but check Air Canada to Toronto then connecting to Bogota there have been some worth wile prices and you're going to end up in that time zone anyway.
I notice that MOST people spell Colombia incorrectly.
Bogota is not overly dangerous. I have been there a number of times and have never had trouble. Colombia is unfairly maligned, in my opinion. A beautiful place with great people. A number of different and fascinating regions. It is definitely the cheapest place to fly to from Canada and it has the added advantage of being a direct flight. You don´t have to land in the States.
But it depends on what you are after whether you fly there. SA is not small, so if you are planning to just fly there and then go overland to some other destination, the time and cost to do this will be much more that you probably think it will be.
If you are just choosing a SA country to visit, you cannot do much better than Colombia. Beaches and mountains and world heritage cities. beautiful inland cities, cheap beer.....and I have been reliably informed that they have a really great Bulgarian place for you to try.

Yeah Colombia must be great since you have warm weather and beaches plus is not that dangerous anymore. I'd tell you to come to Venezuela (which in my opinion has many of the better spots in the world) if it wasn't that dangerous here. Could try brazil too, ive heard the northern area is amazing.
Senk, you are correct. I have said, many times, that the most beautiful place I have ever been to is the Sabana Grande in Venezuela. Ciudad Bolivar is a beautiful town. But Caracas, at least when I was there almost ten years ago now, was really quite a mess. And, too, are you saying that it is a little dangerous in your country?
