I am due to start work in a retail shop on a cruise liner in the Caribbean and I was looking for some advice/tips/help please as I still have lots of questions/concerns. If anyone could help it would be most appreciated.
I'm not speaking from personal experience, but having had some dealings with shipping companies and the way they do business, I wouldn't expect any amenities besides salary, fare and board. I suppose the ship will have internet/phones, but you're likely to pay the same as the guests (which I guess will be an expensive rate). Better do your communications at the ports, probably cheaper. Theft of expensive personal equipment is probably at your own risk, so I wouldn't take any, besides Nintendo and IPod to fight boredom.
It depends on which cruise ship you will be working in. There are quite a number of cruise ships who has internet available on board for both passengers and staff. of course for the staff, it has to be in schedule and in moderation. for phone calls, most of the vessels that I have boarded can only give you that if you will pay... some allows cellphone but of course not during duty.
Congrats. I used to work for Princess and new some shipboard folks. They found their jobs very demanding and challenging but also rewarding and time off tends to come in big chunks so you can really soak it up. I'm actually a little jealous!
