I like this idea of finding a travel partner.

Has anyone had luck hooking up with someone on this forum? I'd be curious to hear your stories. I've travelled solo and like the idea of finding a travel companion, but I guess I'm a little nervous about it at the same time.

I think it's the luck of the draw... Two summers ago, I hooked up with other members from this forum for a motorcycle trip across northwestern China, the Chinese Silk Road. The six of us formed a truly multi-cultural/national group with each one of us from different parts of the world, meeting in one place for the very first time. While I can't admit that we got along most of the time, I know for a fact that everyone had a great time - even with our differences. As cliche as it sounds, both the good times and the bad times that we shared have taught me a lot about myself. (These emoticons are how best I could describe the feelings at the time. Therefore, no regrets.)

On the other hand, this past summer I decided to try this forum again for travels across Canada. Through e-mails and brief phone calls, we both gave the impression that we'd be well-matched through out mutual interests. Upon meeting for the first time, it was instant dislike at the first sight. It was like unloading heavy baggage when we both decided to go our separate ways only after completing about five days of the planned two weeks itinerary. No regrets there, either!

So there you have: luck of the draw.

WELL i HAVE TRAVEELLED ALONE AND MY OPINION IT WAS GREAT BUT NOW I THINK THE NEXT TIME i would like to go travelling with someon my own age around 22 who likes to have fun and like to drink but no drugs ,likes to party as wel as workrole on 2010............any europeans want to go travelling

HI Mary Weary,

I am from Ireland and planning a wee trip in Feb or March in Europe. not sure were yet.....depends on where Ryanair flights are cheap....if you or anybody else on this fancies it...let me know!!

Well, the good thing about forums like this is that there are a lot of people from different places that are so friendly. If you can't find a travel buddy you can post your destinations here and if some members are in the area, some of them will meet you, I know I will if ever your near from where I am at and will be glad to accompany yah for a few days around the country... well, good luck though with searching a travel buddy....

Im always up for meeting other travellerspoint members if we are in the same area that would be so much fun,

Warmly,

Adri

Do agree it kinda like lucky draw. Got to know 2 buddy for my recent trip, one is great.. that other.... haha

hi all,
this summer i kind of had a trip with an american guy
we met here and decided it would be a good idea to go together.
first day was ok, but then it was so ... so ... so ... nightmare.
I have never seen such selfish and stubborn ppl in my life.
we separated in a few days, and i had fun during the rest of my trip.
But i still think its a good idea and going to try again....

Yeah, should probably avoid all Americans. We are all selfish and stubborn. I hear we are also loud and arrogant.

Dear elliottk,
I didnt mean to offend you and i am sorry if i did.
My point was not to show what Americans are like, as i believe you all are different (just as we, russians are) .
What i wanted to show, is that you can meet all kind of ppl, and if there is any problem, the best way is just to separate ASAP. in this case the rest of the trip will not be spoiled.
Sorry again if i hurt your feelings, i really didnt mean that.
Tory.
