I did this in 2009 but my route certainly wasn't direct, and it also went through Botswana (don't know where your safari is so I don't know if you would be covering ground you'd already seen if you did it this way).
Vic Falls->Botswanan border at Kazungula - take a shared taxi or a private taxi or hitch
Botswanan border at Kazungula->Kasane - public minibus or hitch
Kasane->Nata - public minibus or hitch
Nata->Maun - public bus or hitch
If you started early enough, I reckon you could do the above in one day, however it's possible the last minibus from Kasane to Nata is at 10AM or so. Obviously there are safety caveats re hitching, but it's a common way of getting around in Botswana (and Namibia).
Maun->Ghanzi - public bus or hitch
Depending on how early you get to Ghanzi, you might be lucky enough to then hitch to Windhoek but it's likelier that you'll have to stay the night in Ghanzi then hitch the next morning.
Ghanzi->Namibian border at Mamuno - hitch (the public bus seems very erratic)
Namibian border at Mamuno->Windhoek - hitch (there might be public transport from Gobabis onwards but I think most vehicles coming through the border will be going to Windhoek anyway).
Since most of the Intercape coaches from Windhoek to Cape Town leave in the early evening, you would in all likelihood be able to catch one.
Windhoek->Cape Town - takes less than a day on the Intercape coach.
So that would take somewhere between 3 and 5 days assuming you didn't want to see anything along the way. Sightseeing possibilities would be Kasane (Chobe National Park - but if you've just been on safari you probably wouldn't want to see it), Maun (Okavango Delta), Windhoek (head north to Etosha NP or northwest to the Skeleton Coast or west to Swakopmund or southwest to Sossusvlei (would highly recommend Sossusvlei)), Keetmanshoop (head west to Luderitz or southwest to Fish River Canyon), etc. See the travel guide for more info re timing and costs, as I put most of what I know in there (though this is from 2009 - things might have changed).

hey mohn, do you by any chance remember the cost of this route you took ?
As mentioned, all the transport costs are in the travel guide - just go to the entries for each place that I listed and you'll find the info (I can't remember it off the top of my head). As regards other costs like accommodation, food, etc, my experience was that Botswana/Namibia/South Africa were all expensive by African standards - I can give you more specific details if you like (if so, send me a message) but I was travelling on a "flashpacker" budget so my costs might seem appallingly high/low depending on whether you're looking at things from the basic/luxury end of the spectrum.
