Hi!
There's two ways to do this: 1) buy individual tickets as you go, which means you can make up your itinerary as you go, but which generally costs a ton (although with cheap airlines you sometimes can end up at a pretty reasonable price), or 2) buy a round the world ticket. With the latter your route is fixed from the moment you book it, but you can change dates around (within a maximum period of 1 year) for free (limited by availability of certain types of seats on flights, so it's not really quite perfect). One thing to note: RTW tickets either work on a "total miles travelled" system, or on a "continent" system. Either option gets way more expensive because of the inclusion of South Africa, so given this list of countries, I'd consider postponing that one to a subsequent trip, and only do the rest.
Right, got it! I guess I have to decide on a few things then, thanks a lot Sander
Annie I am in the same boat as you. Looking to travel this time next year but just haven't a clue how to go about it all, just don't kno where to start, glad I'm not the only one :-)
I know, and thanks for that Lois, I'm sure we'll figure it out But it's so hard to decide where to go! The world have never seemed this big before. I love it!
Hi guys - I'm also planning to do the same but in 2014 instead so I've a bit more time to digest it all. It is daunting but once you break it down it's not too bad - I've been looking solidly for a couple of months now
I've been in touch with STA Travel who have been very helpful so far so I'd recommend having a word with them or someone similar to maybe help with an itinerary and costs.
Good luck planning - it seems so far away but time will fly!
Maxi
Good idea! Thanks And good luck with your own trip, Maxi!
Gonna do Central/East USA/Canada Summer of 2013 (6 months), then Jan 2014 -> Australia+New Zealand (and perhaps more) (6 months) Enjoy !!
Like maxihobbs said, give STA Travel a try if you haven't already. I booked a load of flights with them lately and they were really helpful!
Oh and if your under 26 you usually get discounted fairs!
Matt
