Bus Fares: Saigon to Pnomphen and beyond

I regret not recording the FARES and the number of hours it takes from one point to another... really regret.

There are no such places as Saigon and Pnomphen

Saigon is Ho Chi Minh city, and yes I hate it when people refer to Myanmar as Burma, but now I know, it's the spelling... Excuse me, I'm in my white trash mode.

People in Vietnam still refer to HCMC as Saigon, and some people would call it capital H-C-M-C.

Yeah, was just kidding. No native English speaking person myself, so probably make mistakes anyhow.
Anyhow, you might check our guides here on info, especially on the Myanmar/Burma thing. As I recall things, it's still possible technically to cross into the country, but for the Yangon/Mandalay region etc you have to fly onwards anyway. And even that WAS only possible entering in the south, not north near Tachileik or something.

The only exception USED to be from China as I remember, but things change fast over there....well, those kinda things, other things not for the good...

Have fun whatever you do

covers my bus trip from HCMC to PP. $12. This has general info as well between the cities. Several companies make the 4 hour coach run: PP to S'ville from the Central Market area. Capitol GH run buses as well. $3-4.

There is an on crossing into Myanmar.

3. Is Myanmar only accesible by flying??? I know border crossings exist back in 2008... But someone told me, I guess in this forum, that there are no way to get in Burma by land... Unless for that 1 day Visa run in Chiang Rai... I hope I am wrong. Well if the airline tickets are not that expensive, I would consider flying to Yangon.

Thanks

Try Air Asia for decent fares to Rangoon. I flew with Bangkok Airways before Air Asia started doing the route but they were a little more expensive.

As far as I know, the only way to cross in Myanmar by land is at Ranong in Thailand (where most people do the visa run from), and from there you would have to fly to get to places further afield within Myanmar anyway.

Is there a way to get to Laos from Cambodia? I read it in a guide books, years ago... But things always change...

Is that route popular??? Assuming that popular is cheap and safe, because it's target market are the stingy backpackers heading to Laos. I want to get to Vientiene, and I'm thinking about a cheaper route to get there:

a. Saigon-(Hanoi or Vinh) -Vientiene

b. Saigon-Phnompehn-Southern Laos
(I have not been to Savanakhet so, I'm considering this route)

I won't be needing Visas... and I am only asking about bus tickets.

Well, I now assume that traveling by land to Myanmar's capital is impractical, it's too far and may be as costly as a flight from Bangkok, am I right? Anyway, I'm not that interested in Myanmar, unless it is cheap to get there. Because I'd rather spent on a territory, I have never visited. I got a stamped from Tachiliek, for a Visa run, years back.

Cambodia to Southern Lao by bus is easy. Common route. Leaving from Phnom Penh, Kratie, or Stung Treng all possible.

'sheeed

Thanks... I'll have this option then.
