Where do you go to find work in Australia?

Hi, I'm travelling on a WHV in November to Australia and have the barest minimum needed to go so am going to need to find some work fairly fast. Everyone I have spoken to have said its easy to find work out there however I don't know where to go to find it can anyone shed some light on this please??

Essentially you do exactly the same as if you were looking for a job here. Take youre CV to a number of recruitment agencies and search online. Check out hostel noticeboards too.

it all depends on your experience. I'm a mechanic so finding work is instant but if you have no trade and have just bar or retail experience your battling against all the other travelers for jobs.

what I would suggest is check the harvest trail website. look at which area will be in season and ring up some of the working hostels in the area to see how much work there is. if you are able to do 88 days then this will qualify for your second year visa. If I could turn back time i would have done my 88 days farm work as soon as I landed.

You might also like to check out the to get an idea of what jobs are available, any requirements (like an RSA for bar work), pay rates, etc. Good luck!

Look on jobs 4 travellers and TAW online. there is a TAW agents in sydney (not sure if there is anywhere else but will be similar) and basically you pay a fee to be put on the system and employers will contact you and you have access to apply for jobs online. Not sure on the cost, but that is the first thing i will be doing when i get there in dec, well, straight after seeing the new year in anyway!

Generally (it probably differs for some fields), November/December is the worst time of the year to find work, as everything is winding down in the run up to Christmas / New Years. Then once January rolls around, everything picks up again. So if you need money before that time, expect to have to work extra hard to find a job.

Sander is spot on. Retailers/hospitality managers usually hire Christmas casuals in October. There won't be anything available in those industries if you are searching later than that. Am also aware it can take 6+ weeks to find a job, even in February.

Be prepared for the job search to take longer than expected. Keep looking, be smart with the money you have, and you'll find something.

I have alot of banking experience and I'm a recruiter now (ha not that you would know it!) and also have dance teaching qualifications but not sure thats gonna help me that much!! Im going to stay with a family member when I first go out so i'm hoping they can help me get a job either as a office hand or somewhere around where they live before I come out, but just wondering for the other places as such!
