I will be traveling with friends from Denver to Las Vegas this summer and want to stop somewhere in Utah to possibly camp/hike. Looking for suggestions for places in Utah along I-70 or I-15, any suggestions?
You have several good options. is just off I-70. Plenty of scenery and hikes. However, it is hot! in July, August. I have been to Arches in summer & winter, I prefer winter. Many photos in my gallery of both. on as well. Perhaps a better option would be Higher elevation means it is cooler in the summer than the other parks. I would stop at Arches, spend a few hours sightseeing and decide if it OK. If you feel it is too hot for camping, drive over to Bryce. After Bryce, head for just a few hours away. Zion is lower elevation and can get hot during the summer as well. A great hike if the water level is low enough is the hike through . One way to beat the heat is to wade in cold water! Zion is worth a day IMO, then roll into Vegas that night. Only 3 hours away.

Like the coolest, best place in the world for adventure and beauty. Like Vegasmike says... Arches NP is really outstanding, probably my top spot in the world (and I've been around) Canyon Lands NP is right down the road aswell. Amazing. I have been there in the heat of summer and while you have to know what your doing, I actually enjoyed it. If you mountain bike at all, it's some of the best in the world. Porcupine Rim is like my second favorite trail in the Universe (1st is in Breckonridge/vail). There are also lots of other great trails there aren't so deadly if you want just a nice ride.
I don't know what your thing is but there is just about everything there.
On your way down you will also go by Fish Lake National Forest, not mountains but really nice camping in a beautiful forest and lakes. I really enjoyed it (less crowded then the popular places).
I agree with Mike too about Zion. Wonderful park. A nice hike is the highest most dangerous one there.. I don't remember the name but it's actually really safe and easy with a breathtaking view... Angel's something I think. The narrows is so cool but was so many people on it when I was there in late summer... I opted for something less populated. I don't really enjoy waiting in line to hike as the ranger mentioned it would be. LOL.
Also there is a great park on the west side of Vegas called Red Rock NP. Beautiful formations and some great hikes with views of the Vegas Valley. Mt. Charleston is also a great rec area with some great hikes (about an hour north of Vegas.
