Travelling to Australia with almost zero plans?!

c_hantelle has indicated that this thread is about Melbourne

Hi c_hantelle,

I'm heading to Melbourne in October and know for sure there are a few others from this forum who you could chat to and get to know a little beforehand if you decide to start there.

Whichever hostel you choose to stay in will have plenty of other people travelling alone and looking to make friends so don't worry too much on that front.

As for the farm work I can't help as I'm just purely travelling.

If I can help in anyway with your plans then just ask.

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

Do you know any good/cheap places to stay in Melbourne which are quite close to the seafront/beach?

Chantelle

Hi Chantelle,

It sounds like the St.Kilda area of the city would be ideal for you.

I'm staying at a hostel called Base St.Kilda which is about a 5 minute walk from the beach, it is just over £15 a night and there appears to be plenty going on there and cheap food and drink =)

I had also looked at a hostel called Habitat HQ which is around the same price.

Hi Chantelle,

I'm going to Melbourne on 26th August and will be staying in St Kilda! Do you plan on working straight away or travelling around a bit?
I was going to stay at BASE hostel but my friend who did the same thing a couple years ago told me to avoid it as its every night partying etc and I don't trust myself there! I am staying at St Kilda Beach House above Hotel Barklay as its right on the beach, much cheaper than Base and they help you find work straight away!

Hope this helps xxx

Hi Chantelle,

I'm heading over to Oz at the end of September and flying into Melbourne, also on my own and have like no plans at all!

I was looking at the ultimate oz trips and decided that i will most definitely meet tons of people at hostels so didn't think it was worth it!

I am also so interested in definitely going over to Fiji! It looks amazing.. and could potentially do the farming work for 3 months to get my second year visa too.

I am definitely going to look into the BASE hostel and the St Kilda Beach House as these sound like they are for me too!

Think we are pretty much in the same boat!
