twenty five hours in Iceland.....

Hello!!!
Returning from a Baltic cruise we are staying an extra night in Iceland. Any thoughts on what to see in such a brief period of time? Wish we had planned a longer visit!!! We'll be there on July 28 (arriving around 3;30 PM) through the 29th (leaving around 5;30PM).
Thanks!!!
Janice

Those are tight timings, what you choose to do will depend on exactly what you mean. Are you sailing into the cruise dock arriving around 3.30pm and flying out of Keflavik airport leaving Reykjavik city centre around 5.30pm?

The three big hits are the city, the Golden Circle, and the Blue Lagoon.

The golden circle is a loop out from the city usually done as a day tour, taking in the geysers at Geysir, Thingvellyr parliament grounds, and Gullfoss waterfalls, plus different trips add some other things in like a stop at Kerid volcano or visiting a greenhouse nursery. You can do this independently by hiring a car or you can take a bus tour - see https://www.re.is/day-tours/the-golden-circle . This may get back a little late for you.

The Blue Lagoon is out by the airport, and you'll see that same site offers combined bus connections with a spa visit.

The city sights include Hallgrim's church, the downtown city centre with Tjorn lake, and a stack of good museums covering Iceland's history, volcanoes, the Edda manuscripts, etc. There's a hop-on-hop-off bus listed on that site above to get around these.

With the time you've got you can't do all of these, realistically. You could see the city properly plus head out to the blue lagoon before your flight. Or you could see a little of the city on your first evening and then possibly have time for that golden circle tour.

Which you choose depends on what you like to see and the pace you like to go at. Hope that helps!

I recommend an afternoon tour like this hiking tour with geothermal baths -snip- Can recommend it as I went on this tour last year. Blue lagoon is close to Keflavik airport so go there before heading to the airport and soak for a couple of hours. For the morning I suggest morning ATV tour (mountain safari, can be found on the same site as above).Explore Reykjavik as well and then visit Hallgrims church (you can go up to the tower), Harpa concert hall and Solfar artwork. Hope this is of some help
