I travelled around India on my own landing in Delhi first - I know its an extremely daunting place & my advice to you would be to head out of the city to somewhere like Agra (Taj Mahal - always travellers there!) Jaipur or Jodphur, I found many more travellers in these places, in fact I met a guy in Jaipur who I ended up travelling with throughout my time in India.

I've been in India for about 4 weeks now, and it has been really hard to meet people and so I've actually done it alone and not found it too bad, except some times of boredom.
I'm in Darjeeling now, and heading towards Varanasi, agra and jaipur etc over the next week or so, when you know your plans let me know we could see if we clash over over of the places.
It may seem tough at first and a lot of hassle, but it gets easier....

Unfortunately I am not a female, but I would have to agree with another post that getting out of Delhi is key. Delhi is just too big to find other English speaking travelers or locals.
I traveled alone in Delhi and was most of the time bored at times. Outside of Delhi I was fine meeting others.

I am an Indian but currently I am in Germany. You should visit Jodhpur, Udaipur. These are in the Western part. If you love partying then Goa is the place. There are thousands of foreigners in Goa. And if you like peace and nature then Kerala is pretty good. But you must definitely visit these places. I have contacts , if you need more help feel free to ask. Would love to help a foreigner in my country.
