Im looking at doing an extensive amount of scuba diving from scratch..... never done any before.
i have two places in mind Egypt and Thailand.... just not sure and wanted ideas off fello scuba divers....

Both: Thailand and Egypt will b nice places for a single 25 male . No worries about good company ( divers are usually cool and friendly), as well prices of diving cource and all around (food, accomodation, etc) are low in both places you mentioned. At time of scuba course forget about nightlife - it's too serious thing, no games. Course usually lasts 5-7 days, if they promise you "light version" - u should keep away from this dive-center. About underwater - I say Sinai (Egypt, Red Sea) is unbeatable. Thailand is very lovely too. The point is, that at time of course you not really able to see anything - you will be too busy with yourself underwater. So, not really matter in which sea u learn, but mater in which dive-center. Level of teaching isnt perfect neither in Egypt nor in Thailand. Both places would be great for dive there after sertification. If/when u already know which one you choose - take it seriously and try to collect all possible information from the net (dive forums, local people, etc, etc) about club that u want to go there. I'm not trying to scare u out, but quality of your studies value much more then a branch of all other issues together. I had a chance to compare divers who learned in different countries and differences in their skills were visible (not talking now about expirience, equipment and physical conditions, only about basic education). It's just about your life, buddy. BTW, Padi is popular, especially in Europe, but it's not the single system and definetely not perfect one. Good luck, and enjoy your trip - where- ever u going!

Hi, Ive just come back from Egypt - Sharm el sheik and did my Open Water Certification. It was an amazing experience and i plan to do alot more diving. I learnt with a great dive centre http://www.cameldive.com/
They were really proffesional and i felt the standard of safety etc was really high. Once you are certified you can do lots of fun dives like wreck diving and night diving at Tiran asland and Ras Mohammed. I too had never been diving before. Im keen to go to Thailand also on reccomendation from Camel. Koa Tao i think it a good place but still need to look into reputable dive centers. Good Luck
