checklist for aus

Alot of us on this site are first time travelers heading over to aus on a whv and quite a few of us are doing it alone. i was wondering what's on other peoples checklist, just seeing if ive forgot to think about anything or if someone has thought about anything i havent.

Any entertainment to keep you occupied? Books? Ipod? Ill be taking my ipod touch, will come in handy as will be able to surf the net, check mail, download apps, play games, listen to music, movies etc. As long as I have Wi Fi that is.

Whats going in your backpack? What size you got?

Sorry for being nosey, just want to compare as in the same boat as yourself.

yeah mate, well i diddnt mention the ipdo cuz that just goes eerywhere with me regardless lol. im just taking a few clothes, couple of tops hoodie, jacket maybe, couple of jeans and shorts. im not planning on taking too much out there with me, i'll just pick stuff up out there as and when i need it. im gonna get a phone out there and thinking of maybe picking up a cheap laptop. what are you planning on taking with you?

Add to your checklist: a small flashlight to be able to find your bed without needing to turn on the big light when returning to your dorm room late at night.

Packing light is v wise indeed, same here. Will be able to pick up stuff out there very easily. What size backpack you taking? My checklist and what clothing i am taking is v similar to yourself. So when are you flying out? Got a route planned yet?

yeah a flashlight is a good idea, nice one mate. i actualy havent even got round to thinking what type of backpack im taking with me yet..im flying out of london on the 21st dec, arrive in syd 22nd.

im planning on staying in sydney for maybe just a week after new years then im going to head off to south aus and start to work my way back round through victoria then up the east coast and end up back in sydney for the last month or so of my stay, might try and squeeze in nz too. how long are you planning on staying out there for, i reckon i'll be able to stretch a whole year out there..well i hope.

Sounds like a good plan mate, hoping to start in sydney and work my way up to cairns then onto NZ and Fiji and beyond..... Hoping to do at least a year in Oz myself, do some work out there as well then move on. If you need a travelling buddy message, going on my own and could do with a partner in crime.

yeah no problem mate, there alot of us on this site that are going over about the same time as each and rouphly in the same direction, so im sure were gonna bump into each other along the line. is there anywhere pasific you wanna go and see or do out there or you just going out for the whole exsperiance?

has anybody thought about getting a nomad/yha discount card or know of any other discount cards?

Hi, I live in Sydney, so here's my tip since you are arriving at Christmas, in the middle of summer.
Make sure you have a hat with a wide brim, and some sunscreen. We can always tell the new chums on the street by their bright red skin. http://static.travellerspoint.com/img/emoticons/icon_redface.gif
We have a saying "slip, slop, slap" which means slip on a long sleeved shirt, slop on some sun screen and slap on a hat. Don't get burnt - it will wreck your holiday and possibly your life - the sun is really hot here and even when its overcast there is heaps more UV than you think.
BTW There is always a Christmas party at Bondi Beach where all the travellers and family-less folk go to hang out at Christmas. Usually bands and lots of fun. Take a blanket/towell to sit on on the beach, and a picnic of yummy stuff from the supermarket including lots of water - or you'll spend a fortune on greasy take aways.
Have a great time on Oz.
