Weather plays a part in every trip so decide if you want winter (Northern Africa) or summer (Southern Africa) - this site might help. http://www.overlandingafrica.com/weather/
As far as how you want to do it, well, that's entirely up to you but going with a group takes away alot of the hassle. I have travelled with Intrepid Travel a number of times and can highly recommend them. They are all about letting you experience the real world within the safety of a small group, with lots of freedom and flexibility along the way... http://www.intrepidtravel.com/
Have fun - planning a trip is so exciting!
Cheers

Hi,
I am afraid i am not able to help you, i don't know Northern Africa at all, only Southern Africa.
Its a wonderful time of Year to be down at the coast line of Cape Town, but Dec/Jan is peak season here and thousands of International and Local vistors travel down to Cape Town to enjoy the sun, sip cocktails at the side walk cafe's of Camps Bay, bookings need to be done weeks in advance if you want to book good rates.
If you are going to travel to south africa you must combine this with a safari around Kruger Park or Madikwe Game reserve or self drive up the Garden Route Cape Town, hermanus, George,Knysna, Oudtschoorn so much to see and do on your own!! But prices will be higher at this time of year and there will be lots of other tourists travelling the same route.
Happy planning!
Andre
Hi,
I am not a specialist of northern africa, but I do believe some nice countries such as Morocco, libya can be visited without any problem.
I suggest you contact a ground agent and recomend a private guide for a private tour.
You will have more opportunity to make a flexible program and enjoy your tour with your boyfriend.
Then you can plan a tour in Mali, west africa
Good luck and all the best.

Hi,
Since you go with your boyfriend you should be fine. We went as two girls and it was horrible. I will never go back there without a male at my side.
Furthermore Marocco is beautiful and quite safe & easy to travel. No need to hook up with a group unless you would feel insecure without a group.
good luck!

Hi,
I think Kenya has just the right destinations for you at the Kenyan Coast since you are travelling with your boyfriend. You dont really need a travel guide, group or company to travel with but you require a travel agent to make bookings for you to your travel destinations.
The coast also offers a wide range of erotic places that you can visit.
good luck and all the best.

Hi,
Most of the African overland travel companies advertising in the UK, send their clients to Jenman Safari's. Try book with them directly and I'm sure you will save a bit of money.
As a saffer, I have to say, dont leave South Africa out of your trip!
