Misinformation on websites of tourist destinations

Have you ever felt cheated when you arrived at your desitnation? We arrived with big expectations at our destination last week. With the pictures of the pristine dam, beautiful fynbos and cute chalet still fresh in our minds as we have seen it on the website.

I have learned the hard way not to trust advertising PERIOD!!! Lord only knows how old these pictures are, how outdated that website is, or how dishonest they are in the first place. Always cross check any information from a brochure or website, and even then, assume that there is a great deal of exaggeration.

This type of "advertising" was just reported on last evening on ABC Nightly News and on ABC's Nightline.

Check out Oyster.com as they have now photographed over 1000 hotels showing the deceptive practices.

Sorry to hear of your experience. These things happen and although you can not do anything about it, the internet is a wonderful source of information to check reviews. Your place might not be on there, but still when using tripadvisor I always find great places for great prices and have rarely been disappointed at all. Even then, there is no guarantee but still it helps. also maybe for you in the future.

Fynbos....that's the southwest of South Africa isn't it?

Yes it is in South Afica in the Western Cape Province. It was in the Cederberg mountains . Fynbos is the type of vegetation you get in the province . It ususually has a big biodiversity ecology and is very special.

Not really at the same level, but on our way back from San Diego earlier this year we booked into an airport hotel at LAX. Ok, usually these aren't the best anyway, but we specifically searched one out with a pool because we wanted to relax a little before the big flight home. Well, what do you know? We get there and the pool had just closed for renovation. You think they could mention this in their description huh?! Man, I was pissed off..
