Can something be done, about the constant flow of spam flowing into the discussion pages of several guides? (the latest is posted in Nepal.)
Cleared them up and banned a couple of those members. The problem here actually is that the discussions stopped showing on the main guide page. This is pretty much an oversight.
I used to spot those spam discussions fairly easily on there. But now I have to go into the main discussions page, which I must admit I don't go to particularly often! I'll look at adding the latest discussions back onto the main guide page. There's enough room there for it.
thanks !
Wouldn't it be an idea to make the discussions a part of the wiki guide forum instead? It will make spotting spam a lot easier, and might also help boost both the wiki and the wiki forum participation. Basically how I'd envisage it is that if you click the 'start a discussion' link that it then is creating a new forum thread in the wiki travel guide forum, with the subject being set to "<wiki page title> + discussion". You could then add options like emailing all that have it on their watchlist, or those that are listed as travel helpers for the subject.
One last but not least comment is that this would make it easier to move discussions that are not really about the actual wiki page over to their correct forum, rather than telling the poster to post again in the forums.
Well, maybe, but that would be a lot more involved than just adding it back in on the guide front page. Would need to do some editing of the forum code to in order to make it work right. There would still need to be a clear way of only loading up discussions related to one particular article. I'm not against the idea, just saying it's a more time consuming change to make.

True Wasn't meant as a quick solution, more as a way to do this in the long run. I guess it'd probably require an extra column in the forum tables to link it up properly, if we didn't want to use the travel help link up instead. On the list for the next discussion round
If that means I can edit/delete (clean up) these discussions as a moderator, I have no problem with that.

And I'll be more than happy to join you

I was just in there to clean up the one you mentioned, but now I'm not sure how they've been dealt with in the past, as I see a bunch of discussions directly underneath that one that probably all should have been deleted, but are just marked as closed.
Is it only moderators/admins that can open these closed discussions, and is this basically the way we've been dealing with this?
