Rookie Traveller, Trekking and hiking advice, Peru

Hello there.
I'm a 22yr old Canadian male who will be going to be backpacking in South America soon. This is my first time in SA. I fly into Lima on Oct, 30th. I only have 7 weeks and am looking to get the most out of my trip. I am looking for some info on good trekking and hiking in Peru and Bolivia. The more intense the better. I am a very experienced hiker (as far as trekking in British Columbia is concerned) and am in great shape. I havn't ever gone higher than 3500m though. Your personel experiences would be realy helpful and much appreciated!!! The only thing I actually have to do is see Machu Picchu. I don't have a permit to do the Inca Trail but have heard of quite a few other ways to get there. Anybody try some of the other treks??
Cheers and thanks in advance!!!

For Peru, there are many treks near Machu Picchu - Other than the Royal Inka Trail, Salkantay, Lares, etc. I used this link when I was there in June.

For Bolivia, I have not done so, but many take Huayna Potosi as a Challenge which peaks at 6088M. Most turned back at 5800M because of altitude problem. You can get plenty of agency in La Paz for the climb.
