Accommadations in New Zealand

I'm travelling to NZ in November. My intentions is to rent a car and travel the north and south islands. I don't plan on pre-booking any accommadation. Do you think I will have any troubles finding accommadations?

Non whatsoever, NZ is full of backpacking accommodations. They usually cost around 20-25 NZD a night. Just stay away from BASE backpacking hostel as I always had bad service at that chain company.

thanks harv. I have never stayed at a hostel. They are not very popular here in canada. I figure I may be a little to old for them. What about low budget motel. Are they plentiful?

You're never too old to stay at a hostel; at least the YHAs in New Zealand frequently feature people staying there who're well over 70, if not into their 80s. Of course if you'll enjoy it there depends a lot on your attitude, I think; personally I find the atmosphere at hostels great - I love getting into random conversations with others in the kitchen or lounge.
Still, if hostels aren't your thing, there's indeed plenty of motels and (cheaper) B&Bs around. High season doesn't really start until Christmas, so you should be fine in November. On the South Island some might start to be full already come late November, but there should still be others with availability.
