I'm not sure I can contribute any tips or hints... But, I'm willing to help out if needed.

Pretty good idea,rather than displaying your photo to stand alone and make them speaks for themself,better to start something so that we can help each other and share the knowledge it will be more interesting,but you have to start or make the ball rolling.I will do help you...
To be most useful, we should probably aim it towards people who are travelling. For instance I don't think we should assume people are using SLR's. There are lots of things you can do with a dinky little $50 point and shoot.
Answers to FAQ's would be good. Such as:
- how to upload pictures to the gallery
- how to store digital photos on the road
- how to get digital photos printed
- how to get film through x-ray machines
- how to stop shaky photos
- etc.
Some basic composition rules. Such as:
- colour wheel
- rule of thirds
- how to crop
- types of lighting
- dof
- how to do a basic landscape
- how to do a basic portrait
- how to do a basic still-life
Some basic electronic postprocessing. Such as:
- how to remove of redeye
- how to change contrast & brightness
- how to resize
- how to crop
- how to rotate
- how to put a frame around the photo
- etc.
There's a number of pretty decent FREE photoediting programs out there. We should provide some links to them.
Then maybe an advanced section for people just getting started with SLR's. I don't think we need to get any more advanced than that. By the time you get to that stage you already own a couple hundred books, websites, etc. for reference.
Along with that, maybe an art interpretation section?
Some other random thoughts:
We should use lots of example photos. I'll volunteer to take them .
We should come up with some "tricks" maybe. Gotta think about that one a bit more...I'm not even sure what I mean yet . But something fun that people can try.
The Photo Guide is aimed at people who want to learn to take better pictures, find out new things to do with their camera or learn about equipment and how to use it properly.
How exactly are you envisioning this? List recommended techniques as in recent threads with photographs as examples, and then also something like a list of two photographs side by side, illustrating: "don't do this, do this" (Or more nuanced: "if you do this, the result will be ..., while if you do this instead..."), all narrated together?
Specific tips for specific environments ("in the rainforest, set white balance to shadow or cloudy to get the greens to come out right")?
...?
Anyway, sounds like a great idea, but much as I'd like to, I don't think I can find the time to really help out with it. Will be more than willing to give feedback though.
Great idea. I don't think you will have to ask for help from anyone. Everyone over here in TP will be more than eager to post some tips or other. I will chip in with some great ideas.

Sander is absolutely right, Phil.
As Q_Zhang has already suggested, a FAQ section would be a good starting point. If you look back at the photography thread then the same questions tend to crop up. I.e. how do I upload photos? Digital or film? etc etc.
A section where people could upload pictures for constructive criticism and comment would also be a good idea I think.

The way we are looking to do it is through a blog. I'll open a blog and will assign writer or editor status to people who want to contribute and bring it into a format.
And I agree with the points you brought up, the Photoguide will be aimed at Travellers - that's what all are on this site, more or less - so don't go looking for how to set up Studio lighting for a Fashion shoot!
I will try and set it up as simple as possible but explain the main concept in certain details but always accompanied by examples...
I am not too sure about the Electronic Post processing, though.. There are so many programs out there and it's a wast world (we are doing photoshop in college) but that's something for a later stage, I guess...
To start off, I think we should concentrate on how to shoot pictures - regardless of format, type of camera, etc...
I'll do up a list with topics that I think should be covered in the Guide (an extended version of Q's list).
Okay, I hope this makes sense (I keep getting interrupted by people asking me questions about work - who do they think they are?????)
