Its a major holiday, and toursit meccas become hell.
Probably for me, it's the tourists in Blackpool during the school holidays.
I don't live too far from the town and quite often visit it for the weekend, just for a stroll and a couple of drinks before staying the night in a good cheap b & b. The louts start drinking about 12, after last night's hangover has just about gone and they are ready to do it all over again for another 15 hours.
It's not just the drinking, it's the urinating along every wall and car, fish and chip wrappers that are like 20 year old rolls of fading and dirty wallpaper all over the pavement and road, the endless shouting and abuse, the fighting and dollops of regurgitated doner kebab and KFC every 10 feet along the promenade.
When I sit in the numerous bars, all the conversation relates to what a dump Blackpool is with rubbish and sick everywhere, yet an hour later the very same people are re-creating the subject themselves for yet another night to come.
Blackpool is a truly wonderful town with masses of history. It's the outsider families with no manners at all that spoil it for everyone else and ruin the place for all to see on a daily basis.
Visit the town out of season and it's like being in a different location altogether.
Crowds, crowds, crowds. I'm not a crowd person (I don't even like concerts anymore--although I'd make an exception for Sir Paul!), and I prefer to visit in a bit of an off season just to get some space and calm.
I've learned to avoid peak season travel totally. I love to travel in any season except summer - the season I stay home (usually pretty nice here in Oregon).

Is that Robeson guy still going?

and if you want to ran away from the crowd, you need to risk dying in a stampede, because the train stations can look like a scene from a holocaust film. The buses are ultra expensive, and its sell as fast as a Madonna concert. Even you are willing to brave the CROWDEAD train stations, there are no more tickets.
3. My nice landlord asked me to leave for 5 days, coz my apartment is hot property. Apparently, someone booked it for the holidays. Then you cant travel to another city coz all tickets are sold. Everything in town becomes gold...
Peak season is over, but my favorite spaghetti, is officially ketchup/catsup... They change the sauce during the peak season made it taste like dessert and now it is doomed.
Every time a peak season, it seems that prices made for that season remains the same, and it gets more expensive peak season after peak season. And some places have more one peak season per year.
The best solution is not to travel in peak season. We visit Europe every year and always go November to January. Leaving again on November 4th....can't wait!!!
I once went to Venice over Easter. My friend and I had been travelling in Europe since December. Neither of us were religious, and never had been. We thought February was a pretty safe month for travel. When we showed up, it was a fricking mad house. Venice has never been the most spacious of places, but you could not move at all. everybody was walking at a shambling zombie pace, pointing everywhere. It remains the worst visit I have ever had to a city. And Venice was beautiful...But I am with the other guy. Crowds are the worst. We stayed two days. The second morning, I woke up at four in the morning and went out to shoot some pictures. There was no other time when the place wasn't wall to wall with people.
Those three days were damn crummy, but they actually gave me two of my top ten best travel tales. Which goes to prove that the worst times make the best stories. Or, whatever doesn't kill you, makes a pretty good anecdote.
