Have you signed up with a few temp agencies? Also, check out - short-term jobs come up on there, sometimes they specifically mention travellers in the ad too.
yeah i signed up with geoffrey nathan etc. Ive also applied to quite a few jobs on that seek.com.au hopefully i will get some replies soon. thanks for your help
With agencies in Melbourne (can't speak for other locations in Aus) you really need to follow up on a regular basis. If you have a contact, call or email every day to find out if anything has come up. It's not unusual for them to get something like 500 applications for one job! So keeping in regular contact is really important.

im in perth at the mo so not sure how this is the same
but 99% of the jobs ive applied for ive been turned down as im not a citizen or hav perm residency
surely they shud put this on the opening job description??? even some of the temping agencies like kelly services and addecco have said they their temp roles are only for residents also
its very frustrating at the min i think during this resession, find some ppl are being quite discriminative towards backpackers ...
Just adding my comment here... I've got luck in finding jobs at www.seek.com.au as a Bartender which let me so thankful with that.
It's damm important to be always with eye wide open to don't miss job positions being updated during the day, because I've seen many times nice job oportunities being taken for someone else in a few minutes..
On the other hand I've got lots of disappointments with that existent "restriction" for foreign people when looking for an informal and formal job positions.
As an old wise man told me once.... No worries mate, what's yours is coming soon, just keep looking for and never give it up!
