I can advise you to go to Railay. It's a peninsula of Krabi and one of the greatest places I've been while I was in Thailand. Hidden laguna's, rock climbing and such .
You will definitely love it. I stayed in the Yaya resort, I think we payed around 400 baht a night there and it has sort of a tree cabin feeling.
The fun thing about Railay is that you can't get there with a normal boat, you have to take the smaller longtail boats and wade through the water for a few meters before you can get to the beach.
Also, when you arrive in Krabi, go to P. Guesthouse. It's a very good and cheap hostel with very friendly people, you're close to a everything and you can rent motorbikes. In Krabi, I recommmend you to go to the Tiger Cave Temple, we bumped into it while we were driving around at random, it's worth it:

With your budget, it is going to hard to visit Koh Phi Phi or Phuket. Most rooms are way above ypur 400 baht/nite budget. Take a look at & . Both are a short ferry ride from Krabi and have lower prices. I would walk into several travel shops once in Krabi. Tell them your budget and see what iresorts they might suggest. There are several lesser known resorts and beaches that may be in your budget range. Worth checking out IMO.

Or you can take a songthaew, a truck taxi, over to Ao Nang beach. is a pleasant beach by itself, but it also much closer to Railay Beach than Krabi town. You may also want to . If you want somewhere chilled to stay i can recomend Ko Lanta (the second of the 2 islands ko lanta Yai. Khlong nin beach is amazing...2 miles of white beach! i will be visiting it again on my trip early next year!!!
