Oz Adventure - beginning May 2010!

Hey

Hey Helen!

I'm in the same boat as you...thinking of flying into Sydney in the beginning of May. I'm actually going to apply for a WHV in just a bit - can't wait!! This will be my second time in Australia. I was just there in Nov for 2 weeks...let me just tell you...Australia is a great country! I actually went there to see if i would potentially want to live there for a year...turned out to be a definite yes! For Sydney...there are so many things you could do. Some of the things I did while over there:

-Bridge climb - a must!
-Taronga zoo...a lot of the animals were not there when i went but definitely worth a visit
-Visit the Opera house ....it was beautiful...when i went the harbor was packed with sailboats. Want to see a show while there again.
-Royal Botanic Gardens....so peaceful and serene

Are you looking to go anywhere else besides Sydney?

Will you be working while in Aus?

Can't wait to go!! Feel the same way as you...nervous and very excited!

Margaret

It'd be worth doing at least a day trip into the Blue Mountains, if hiking isn't your thing you can still visit echo point and the 3 sisters and perhaps have a ride on the scenic railway.

Where are you headed after Sydney?

Hey guys,

Thanks for you replies.... Margaret that's what this trip is for me partly to experience the backpacking side of it, but to experience Australia with a view for a permanent move.

I've looked through a lot of forums and am going to invest in Lonely Planet guide...it appears to be highly recommended.

I have the next few days off work so am going to go through things see if anywhere else in particular appeals to me....i'd quite like to go Ayers Rock, apart from that i'm just going to go with the flow.... I've been told I should try fruit picking just for the experience and to just head up the East Coast.

Helen

if it's may - nov that you'll be going then I'd consider going to one of the Yulefest things they have in the Blue Mountains... it's basically Christmas in June (sometimes with real snow) and the whole town gets quite into it and the hotel/motel will probably have full christmas dinner etc. It's pretty cool.
I'd also consider chucking skiing in there for a weekend, Thredbo is pretty easy to get to from sydney and there's lots of cheap packages for just a weekend. I wouldn't go for more than a couple of days as the resorts are pretty small but it is pretty cool to see a proper ski resort with an australian backdrop...

Thanks M1shM4sh!!

Looks like Blue Mountains is being added to my list of places to visit

I'm so excited... 60 days and counting

Helen
