Where to eat the best chocolate?

Dear all,

In my opinion, the best chocolate in the world is from Belgium.
Swiss, English and Italian chocolates are not bad either (I think it’s all about the ratio of milk and sugar to coca?)
American is waxy, South African too sugary and Argentinean is too milky!

You cant go wrong in most of europe for good chocs!

Yeah, I've heard that the best chocolate is from Beljium. I tried severals that were claimed to made in Beljium. Unlike chocolate from other places, it dooesn't mix with too much ingridients. Not too sweet, and not dry. Besides, it melts when you put the chocolate into your mouth. Anyway, no matter it was real or not, chocolate from Beljium is definitely delicious. <3 <3 <3 Hopefully, I can go there someday in the future.

no any doubt Belgian is the best. If u travel in Belgium - dare to enter chocolad museums.
But even im Belgium - there are different mmm.. how i say "categories" of chocolad.
from something plain to real art of chocolad.
The second place probably would be Swiss.
Actually, every country (almost?) makes own chocolad.
Italian is pretty good as well, some sorts of Austrian and French are great,
German is simple (and inexpensive), can't remember taste of Spanish and British - seems that they didnt impress me.
Russian is strange if u don't use to this taste.
Latvia - traditions of dark very bitter chocolad.
Israel - plain chocolad from supermarket is ok, but there r lots of chocolad-butiques - kinda hand-made, expensive, but good enough ans many original combinations.
North American - not eatable (sorry!)
-----------------------------------------------------------
underline... for chocolad go Belgium.

yep it's Belgium all the way on this one.

I'm glad everyone agrees on this topic (I'm Belgian!), although there are different qualities on offer.
You better ignore the chocolate in discount supermarkets, and most of the chocolate sold in those tourist shops in cities like Brussels or Bruges is crap, this chocolate is just too sweet...

It seems like you've tasted a great amont chocolate over Europe! I am kind of interested in Russian chocolate. How strange is it? Is it sour? Does it smell bad? Does it add something special? I heard somewhere in Africa produce sour chocolate. I can imagine that, but I can't figure out the Russian type.
For North American chocolate...I'm with you!

You're lucky to be a Belgian! It seems like chocolate from the discount supermarkets all over the world are not high class. And Thanks for the suggestion!

Belgium.... Best chocolate and finest beer in the world.
Have a go at Belgian chocolate beer. Best of both.

Yeah Belgium has definitely got to be up there. However last week a friend of mine came back from a vacation in Venice and brought me some of the nicest chocolates. She got them from a chocolate factory and they had the strangest flavours, my favourite being cracked red pepper, amazing! Anyone else had these? Claire x
