Hi hench
I'm looking to be in Sydney for Xmas and New Year, if you can recommend some hostels that would be great. They all look much of a muchness on the review sites. I was thinking of opting for one of the YHA's or Big Hostel.
who are you goin with andy?
ye i would appreciate it if you could give me a few names to check out aswell, thanks
I am spending the month of Oct in Oz, tentatively plans in the making now. I am thinking Sydney , blu mts , zoo, daytrip Manly maybe) Cairnes..Great Barrier naturally, Daintree for cape trib tours...canopy and night hike? Maybe Frasier. Dont know if I can get to Alice Springs and is it worth it to see a big rock? Heron Is is almost a must. Thats all I know right now with my research. I am a 56 yr old widow, never backpacked before but bold and fit. I am not limited to backpacking totally but have traveled light before and its ok with me. Life is boring now and friends dont seem to want to leave the couch so I figure, drop me off in a friendly environment across the world and I will find adventure. HElp me all you can !!!!

I stayed here And liked it. Its close enough to downtown to walk, but just outside downtown to be in a fun neighborhood. Nice family runs it too.

razzaefc - I'm going on my own, first time travelling. I've always wanted to go to Australia/Sydney and it's either now or never. I've got a Working Holiday Visa sorted, so I'm biting the bullet. How about you?
hench - thanks for the advice. I'm after a happy medium with the party/chill thing. As I'm going, initially, for xmas/new year I realise everywhere will be party central and more expensive than normal. I'm just nervous of booking somewhere and finding I'm stuck for 10 days with 17/18 yr olds who vomit after 4 pints (I'm 31 btw and partial to a drink or two, but like a quiet night now and again!)
Dodger - thanks, I've been looking at that one
Robynhar - I've never backpacked before either, I'm 31 and will have to leave a well paid job to do it. It's now or never!
