The main reason i wanted to start this thread is to discus internet travel help! questionable subject , is it not? i mean is internet really helping us get around easily or is it just full of advertise, scams and spam? I used to think that about the internet seeing every day tones of spam , tones of advertise and of-course lots and lots of false offers and tricky promises. As it came one day when i just wanted to get away from my home, from my boss, from my teachers (i was both studying and working at the time) , from my every day town.... so i just packed eager to leave for a well deserved vacation , but had no idea where to go , what to do , what to see , how to get there and more importantly why to go anywhere. I must admit that I was a bit nervous and stressed and i couldn't make heads or tails of what i was doing, but i took a deep breath and sat down at my computer to see if any friends had any ideas ....couldn't find any at that hour( at work, in vacation, or sleeping (time-lines)) so i just started researching on my own and coming the internet until , for my surprise, i found information, helpful guides, serious services that allowed me to plan every bit of detail of my trip ahead so i just enjoyed my vacation with any stress whatsoever. I found updated facts and information about places, transportation info and services, hotel booking, advice, tips and all the tricks making my vacation that i spent on the beaches of Italy the most relaxing yet ,after that experience i can really recommend the sunny beaches in Palinuro (south of Italy) and just wish you to have as much fun as i did!
So the opinions differ and the subject is debatable , but as I am concerned my views on the internet travel guides changed after that trip. needles to say I had other travels (Spain, Germany, Austria, Holland )some in business interest , but i took advantage of the same services to make it less stressful and consuming! That is one of the reasons that i joined this forum to find friends, advices and share experience with other travelers worldwide, that once again proves the efficiency of the internet in getting people closer , making information more accessible and find services that take care so you don't encounter trouble in your travels. If i can give out a personal advice is to take a few moments , research thoroughly and plan ahead to avoid the head ache that traveling can become. (always search for the BEST TRAVEL WEBSITES )
To begin.. Without the internet, be it for travel, emails, info elsewhere, banking - the list is pretty well endless, we'd all survive just fine. It's just an invention that's come along and has - without a doubt, changed the world forever. Then again, without it - as I said, we'd all plod along just dandy.
I run a small flight agency and just 12 years ago, it was all brochures and phone calls. Today, we hardly ever even pick up the phone when booking a flight for someone. Plus, we're getting as many enquiries and bookings on-line nowadays as people coming into our little shop. I still really like offering the personal service though, ratherb than just pressing a few buttons - and so often, not even having to do that.
Spam and scams? They existed just as widely through the post before www. came along. It's just another format of the same thing.
Surprisingly enough, so it seems - the brochures are still there on the streets. We get 100's delivered every month.
Oh - and in your local library you'll still find those things. Now what are they called? Let me think.... Oh yes - 'Books'.
Best travel websites - you say.. Thats almost like saying 'Best place to eat a burger'. Depends totally on what you want and how much good service you demand.
