Help Please: Travel NZ by bus

Hello everybody

is the main country-wide bus company, which goes everywhere daily. They have a "flexi-pass" where you buy a set number of hours on the bus which you can use for any bus journey in their network; worth getting if you travel lots of short distances (< 3 hours) from city to city, but they also have significantly cheaper (as much as 60% off) non-refundable fares if you book enough in advance (and since July is low season, that can be quite a short time before the journey), which are a much better deal again than the pass.
There's also many more regional bus companies, which frequently have good prices. If you're just booking as you go, check the local visitor centers for the best deals.

Naked bus are also fairly good, although their network isn't quite as extensive, but they are very cheap if you book in advance- they do $1.00 deals sometimes. Another website you might want to keep an eye on is I know you said bus, but these flights can be cheaper to get from one place to another, and you've got to cross the Cook Straight somehow! Having said that, I think that the ferry is a much more enjoyable mode of transport, and the train from Picton to Christchurch is really lovely, I think you see more coastline than you do from the road if I recall correctly!

I would suggest, and if I'm giving more advice than required just ignore it!- that you might want to spend a bit more time in the South Island at this time of year- Queenstown and Wanaka in all their snowy glory! In summer I would say prioritise the northern beaches, but they're no good in winter so you might as well enjoy the South Islands chilly beauty. I hope you don't mind cold!

Thank you thank you for the kind advices!
Much appreciated!
