San Fransisco to Lake Tahoe South

feedad has indicated that this thread is about USA

One of the casualties of this current recession/depression is that the Lake Tahoe airport has been closed to commercial flights.

As a result, you have two choices--
(1) Drive from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe, or
(2) Fly to Reno, Nevada and then get local transportation (shuttles or buses or a car rental) to the Lake Tahoe area.

Since you have indicated that you don't want to drive, here is the info you'll need for option #2:

Reno is easy to reach by many airlines, but tickets are not cheap. The cheapest I found in July were about $281 RT (US Airlines), or $291 RT (Southwest) per person.

The local transportation options from Reno or Carson City to Lake Tahoe are TART (Tahoe Area Regional Transportation) or BLUEGO (South Lake Tahoe Transportaion Agency). However, these two groups don't seem to interconnect.

That leaves the local private bus companies--and fortunately, they seem to do the trick.

Check out the following link:
http://www.southtahoeexpress.com/
where they list the price for one-way and round-trip shuttles directly from the Reno airport to South Lake Tahoe.

P.S. If you change your mind and decide to drive from the SF area, be aware that it only takes about 4 1/2 hours--unless you are leaving on a Friday evening--then just add at least an additional hour to your time.
