I will be travelling in Central and Eastern Europe for 6 weeks with 3 - 4 more frens in September onwards. It will be our first time travelling there and will be on a budget, hence will appreciate if you guys can give us some guidance on where to go about and how we can travel around there.
You'll get a whole bucket load of good info from the locals on this one.
The single piece of advice I would give you - is stay clear of any sort of rail travel pass. Buy your rail tickets withing one country, avoid international trains that cross from one country into another - and you'll save money. Not only on a waste of time rail pass, but also onn the cost of international tickets. A rail ticket from one side of (say) Germany to the other, then another ticket across Switzerland - within Switzerland itself, will work out cheaper than an international ticket across the two, or a rail pass.
Watch the beerfest. It's expensive and the choice of beers are very limited. It's OK to an extent, but after a few hours becomes very repetitive and unless you're in the region - really not much of a highlight.
