I know there are some similar threads, but could anyone recommend reasonably warm (and fun), reasonably inexpensive European destinations for a young couple from late December to early January? It doesn't have to be bathing suit weather, but we would prefer around 5-10C with a lot of sights to see. And we'd maybe be interested in something kind of off-the-wall (as long as it was safe) and unexpected.
Anywhere mid-Spain and south of it, mid-South Italy, Malta, Southern Portugal, Southern Greece and Southern Turkey. They'll all offer the winter temperatures you're looking for. Southern Spain will be, generally, warmer than that.
As an all round warm destination 12 months of the year - try Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fueteventura and Lanzarote. A long way from mainland Europe, but still part of Spain. Oh and duty free goods can be bought there when travelling back to the EU from there as well. Something off the wall there?.. How about a barbeque cooked over flowing volcanic lava? It's good and its tasty (Lanzarote is best for it).
