Some of my friends did this whilst I was travelling there, I'm not sure where you get the tickets from direct, but they booked through "Ozintro", which is a travel agent in Coogee Sydney, we all booked our first week in Aus with them and they sorted out our visa, helped with our tours etc, great friendly bunch of people. Look them up on the net and give them a ring, im sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.
I didn't have the money at the time to go,so myself and other friends set up camp outside the opera house and obv just across from the bridge. sat there all day in the sun and drank and had front row seats for the fireworks! fantastic. Be warned that you are not allowed to take your own drink to the beach or to the botantical gardens, they search bags, the lines for the botanical gardens were just stupid, so we headed down to the opera house, no line ups (in the morning anyways, heuuge crowds at the end of the day) and we were allowed as much of our own drink as we could carry.!!
