I do not think you can go overland too easily from Kathmandu to Tibet due to the altitude and depending on the season too. Most overland tripsw work the other way round.
It is easier to fly into Lhasa spend a couple of days acclimatising to the altitude and then head to Kathmandu from Tibet. So, if you are planning a big trip then maybe you can head to China (Chengdu) first then into Lhasa and then overland to kathmandu and then save India until last. You can head down to Delhi by plane or overland from Kathmandu.

The best way to get to Tibet would be more easier from Nepal if you are in India somewhere. Of course all the document process will take minimum a week if you aren't in hurry,within the week you may travel somewhere nice places close to the mountain for acclimatization because during your journey to Tibet, you are going more than 5000m,so to avoid any kind of high altitude sickness.
In fact, you are traveling from Nepal to Tibet via tourist coach nowadays with group. Because all the travelers should go to Tibet in join in basis and it's also call joining tour. Please drop me a line for further assistance. Thank you and happy journey..

Yes you can do this,however I STRONGLY advise you to go overland for the last part instead of flying.If you fly into Tibet,you are more likely to get real bad altitude sickness wereas if you go overland,your body has a chance of adapting more easily.

A friend of mine did the same trip last year and she said it was truly incredible and the Tibetans treated her like a princess.She went overland by train and didn't get sick whereas my other friend went by plane and was really ill.

I wish to travel to Kailash MAnsarovar this summer and have been advised to go via Lhasa. what is the best way to travel from new delhi to Lhasa.
understand that the overland drive from Kathmandu to Lhasa has been banned by the china govt due to last year earthquake
